Right after we arrive at this comfortable beach villa, we go to the beach to do what we turn out to do most of the time during our stay: gather stones and shelves. The beach appears to be a central location for us, since we enjoy the lovely small restaurants on the beach with shrimps and fish on the menu. It’s just a little walk and thanks to the somewhat of the beaten track there are no crowd on the beach or whatsoever. Instead you will surely encounter the local fishermen and our oldest daughter was very pleased when she got invited to help the fishermen collecting their fish. Very soon after this experiences she announced to become a fisherman herself.

The Bahn Nam Soey villa is built by local craftsmen with traditional Thai features and is furnished to a high standard. The house with its many windows and terraces, offers the best of indoor and outdoor living. The villa accommodates 6 people and boasts 3 bedrooms with great beds. The master bedroom enjoys a fitted dressing area, his and hers facilities and a large balcony. Wherever you are in the house there's a lovely view of the beautifully maintained tropical garden, the swimming pool and the sea. The open kitchen leads onto the downstairs covered terrace equipped with dining table and loungers. There is a 32" flat screen TV and home movie center including Sky Sport, Movies, Box sets and all UK TV channels. You might experience a short power cut occasionally, which was a nice adventure for our kids as we put lit candles throughout the villa.

This place is great for kids: there are security gates for young children, there’s a cot for kids up to 5 years. Because of its fans, windows and air conditioning, it remains cool indoors even when the temperature outside is soaring. And once in a while you might find yourself in a tropical rain shower; our kids loved it and thanks to that the island is really green. Bahn Nam Soey is situated around the pool with 5 other villas. All of them are private houses that are rented out when the owners aren’t home. We found quite some other families there, from all over the world. The villas share the garden that is well maintained by ladies who also loved to do our daughter’s hair in the morning…

The local Dutch neighbor rented us a car, but the owner also can arrange this. Ko Samui is not that big and every destination is reachable within a few hours’ drive. The island is, of course, quite touristic, especially on the east coast. Bahn Nam Soey is at the north coast and therefore quiet. No volleyball in the pool, no Thai dancing evenings and no swim-up-pool-bar….
Our kids love to do roleplays, make up stories and formulate ‘family missions’. One of those missions was to find a water buffalo, a creature they found really fascinating, and yes, we found it! We also used the car to find a supermarket, for the kitchen is well equipped to prepare your own meal occasionally. And we found a lot of beautiful beaches and several great temples, such as the colorful Wat Plai Laem! Common the locales, we take a nap every midday.
We stayed here for a month, so occasionally we took a daytrip. For example, we went to the Paradise Park Farm; a lovely park with which the kids were very happy. It doesn’t happen a lot when a monkey tries to find flies in your hair J. Also, the iguana found herself a place on the head of our daughter.
It’s not hard to get in touch with people with those blond girls. Especially our youngest daughter who learned how to walk here, was seeking an audience to show her newly discovered skills.
Of course, we had to enjoy the classic, local massage. Forgotten about earlier lessons, we heard ourselves confirm for the Thai Massage. Be aware that when you’re asked for “hard massage”, this really is a hard massage. And let’s be honest: we are no longer the gods of 20 years. It ended up in a sort of battle to get us in positions we normally don’t find ourselves in. No worries: also, our daughter was pleased with the child massage she had.
