We have the pleasure to spend time in Luxembourg while travelling home from France. Le Royal Hotels & Resorts in the city of Luxembourg is a nice place to relax and recover from our journey.
With a little baby, we are happy to find a place this clean, luxurious, comfortable and professional. We enjoy the comfortable beds and the staff is very helpful, friendly and multi lingual. We already feel like royals at our arrival, since we do not have to park our own car, the staff is very willing taking care of parking it in the valet parking. And if you travel by plane: there’s a good shuttle service to and from the airport.
We must say at the time of our staying we find the hotel a bit old fashioned and we are happy to hear it has been seriously renovated (after closure for almost 1,5 years). Looking at the reviews it should be classy and modern now, and a real 5-star property. It has splendid rooms full of gadgets, with a pleasant bathroom. We are not sure if the Royal Club section has been refurbished yet, but the rooms are good and spacious. Make sure you book a room at the back (facing the park), as they seem more quiet.
The breakfast is special; there’s a great buffet or you can order more from the menu and it's done in few minutes. A visit to Le Royal is really enjoyable if you are in for dining: the hotel offers Amélys, a rather new place with wonderful French dishes as well as Luxembourg's specialties and a Sunday Brunch! And there's La Pomme Cannelle with an innovative French cuisine and ingredients form all around the world.
Our daughter loves the pool so we spend quite some time there. We do not have any experience with the sauna and gym, but they all seem very good. You might want to book any treatments in advance if you can as they become fully booked around holiday times.
You can leave your car at the hotel, since the location is at walking distance of the city. We get an excellent explanation from the staff where to go and what to see. The hotel is perfectly placed for walking into the main shopping and restaurant areas of the city or walking down to explore the 'old' city with for example the Neumünster Abbey and Palais Grand-Ducal. Or take a constitutional stroll around the park behind the hotel. Walking out in the city at night (to dine or just for the sake of it) felt safe and comfortable.
For the little ones, a Pirate Ship Playground is close by as well as some other parks, like the Parc des trois glands. And as for activities in the city you might try the Bock Casements: tunnels carved out of a solid rock. It is a nice activity if your kids like exploring and it’s cool to see the cannons placed throughout. The views from the Casements are probably the highlight. Be aware that if you are claustrophobic, then you may not want to venture too deep. Also, the Musée National d’Histoire et d’Art is reviewed well.
We love experiencing different places and do not return often, but if we are in the neighborhood we will surely visit Le Royal again.
WOW:
# Really comfortable place. In one word – you are treating like a Royal.
# A great pool for the children as well; we love it especially on a cloudy day.
# On a 5 minutes-walk to the city, so excellent as a base to explore the city of Luxembourg.
