Jean and Victoria’s place is a lovely and excellent Riad (Moroccan villa) situated just 5 minutes outside Taroudant where you will find a real Moroccan experience. The riad is an independent apartment, surrounded by a landscaped park of over 8400 m2! Therefore, it’s very quiet, laid back and a relaxing place relaxed to spend time with your family.
Best part for kids is of course the huge pool of 25 meters. Just to anyone who should think that the water in the pool looks dark - it is not: the water is pure, fresh and amazing, and the kids and us really enjoyed the pool every day. It’s a bit chilly, but never mind on a sunny Moroccan day.
The riad has more than enough space for 6 people or more, it has 4 bedrooms including a master suite of 50 m², each equipped with private bathroom and air conditioning. The giant living room is filled with all kind of art and you will find yourself wandering around all of this. The place is cleverly set up with a large covered terrace of 150 m2. And you will find a large hall with access to the solarium terrace with a shaded table, barbecue and summer kitchen.
Two people (included in the rent) ensure your comfort. The cook can cook up delicious tagines, Moroccan specialties and extremely delicious small Moroccan cakes with sweet mint tea. She is paid for 3 times a week. If you want to enjoy her services every day, just let the owner know. A gardener takes care of the park and garden and you can enjoy the good fruits and vegetables from the garden (when there are some). You can also request the preparation of good barbecues with such good fresh market fish.
If your children like animals, you will be delighted. There are two very nice dogs to guard the property and they are good with children. Our youngest daughter just loves to walk through the immense garden petting the dog at every step. So, the dogs are good with people and children. There is also a sheep, a donkey kept in a closed area and some chickens. You will also be able to have some of their eggs in the morning if they want to be generous. One thing you might consider if you are a light sleeper: the frogs around the house tend to raise their voices during the night.
Hiring a car is recommended. With older children you might rent a motorbike in town which is quite nice too. The house is situated Taroudant, a very laid-back city in Souss-Massa-Draâ. This region owes its name to the three rivers floating through: Oued Souss, Oued Massa and Oued Draa. Taroudant is surrounded by the Great Atlas and the Anti Atlas and holds an important place in the history of Morocco. It is also called the small Marrakech certainly for its superb historical ramparts. The ramparts are 7,5 km long, 130 towers and 19 bastions. They have five entrance doors giving access through the cardinal points. If you are into markets, you for sure should visit the Berber market here.
The Atlas Mountains are very closeby, perfect for a mountain trip. It is even possible to try a camel or donkey ride in these mountains. The palmeraie of Tioute is a magical setting of more than 20.000 palm trees and the oasis of Tiout. And not to forget the seacoast and Agadir just 40-60 minutes driving. There’s a lot to do at Agadir as well; your family will love Paradise Valley where the water flows continuously and the green is year-round. Take a journey through the valley and see a variety of landscapes with contrasting colors before enjoying a break in the natural pools. Or a bit the opposite: a tour to explore the secret sand dunes of Timlalin, where the big dunes of Tagoba meet the Atlantic Ocean creating a stunning view. And a great option for older children: explore the surrounding countryside areas of by riding a buggy or quad bike through Berber rural areas and pre-Saharan terrain.
