Planning a family vacation can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to choosing the right destination and accommodations. However, with its rich history, vibrant culture, and family-friendly activities, Berlin is a fantastic option for families looking to create lasting memories. We are having the pleasure of staying at the Fjord Hotel for a few nights. From the moment we arrived, we are impressed by the hotel's attention to detail and commitment to creating a memorable experience for its guests.
Located in the heart of Berlin, the Fjord Hotel is a four-star hotel that offers a modern and stylish atmosphere, making it the perfect home away from home for families. With its Scandinavian design, cosy and comfortable rooms, and welcoming staff, the Fjord Hotel provides the ideal setting for families to relax and enjoy their vacation.
The hotel's rooms are quite spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated with contemporary furnishings. There are different room types available, including standard rooms, family rooms and suites. Our family room ‘Lovely L’ is spacious and comfortable, with separate sleeping areas for parents and children. We even have a balcony with a nice view of the city. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are equipped with all the necessary amenities, including air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. If you the budget and your children large enough for their own room, do try the ‘Lovely view’ with a panoramic view of the city.
As we like to do a lot of activities on our travels, we take the opportunity to explore the city's rich history and culture by visiting famous landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag Building, and Berlin Wall. We also make sure to take advantage of the family-friendly activities in the city, including the Berlin Zoo, Legoland Discovery Center and Aquarium Berlin.
The Berlin Zoo is one of the oldest and most famous zoos in the world. With over 20,000 animals from all over the world, including pandas, elephants, and tigers, it's a great place for families to learn about different species and habitats. Your kids will have a blast seeing all the animals up close and personal. For some indoor fun, we visited the Legoland Discovery Center, a place where kids can explore and play with interactive exhibits, rides, and even a 4D cinema. It was a great way for the kids to burn off some energy while learning at the same time.
Another indoor activity we enjoy was visiting the Aquarium Berlin, which is home to over 9,000 animals, including fish, reptiles, and insects. We are fascinated by the different species and learned a lot about the underwater world. Of course, we couldn't visit Berlin without exploring its rich history and culture. The Brandenburg Gate is a famous landmark that was built in the 18th century and has become a symbol of Germany's unity and peace. It is a stunning structure to see in person and a beautiful photo opportunity.
Another point of interest is the Reichstag Building: the seat of the German parliament and a beautiful building with a glass dome on top that offers a 360-degree view of the city. It is a great way for us to see the city from a different perspective and learn more about Germany's political system. The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Cold War that divided East and West Berlin. Today, parts of the wall have been preserved as a reminder of the city's history. We also visit Checkpoint Charlie, one of the border crossings between East and West Berlin during the Cold War, which has now become a tourist attraction where you can see a replica of the checkpoint and learn about the city's history.
After all these adventures it is also pleased to return to the hotel for some relaxation. And after a good night of sleep we try the breakfast buffet and find a nice variety of options to suit all tastes. It has a terrace area where guests can dine outside, if weather is permitting you.
One of the highlights of our trip to Berlin is experiencing the city's diverse culinary scene. From traditional German cuisine to international options, we love trying different foods and explore the city's various restaurants. We are particularly impressed by the famous street foods, including the currywurst and doner kebab. These local favourites are delicious and satisfying, and we find them to be a convenient option while on the go. For those seeking a more formal dining experience, Berlin offers many options for traditional German cuisine. We especially enjoy visiting Zur Letzten Instanz, the city's oldest restaurant, where we are treated to delicious schnitzel, sauerbraten and bratwurst. Overall, Berlin's diverse culinary scene provides us with a unique and memorable dining experience. Whether we are in the mood for street food or fine dining, we are able to find a restaurant that suited our tastes and budget in this vibrant and multicultural city.
