If you're looking for a family stay that combines elegance, comfort, and an authentic Malaysian touch, the RuMa Hotel and Residences in Kuala Lumpur is the ultimate choice. Our recent stay with our two teens, ages 13 and 15, is a seamless blend of luxury and local culture—a perfect balance between modern amenities and enriching experiences for the entire family.
We are staying in the truly remarkable 2-Bedroom RuMa Suite, a sprawling 172 m² haven designed more like an exclusive residence than a hotel room. This suite features two master bedrooms with stunning views of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, a separate living room, a dining area, a fully equipped kitchenette, a cozy lounge, and a guest washroom, all furnished to the highest standards.
From the moment we arrive, we feel enveloped in a serene oasis in the city’s heart. The suite’s decor echoes the RuMa’s aesthetic of understated elegance, incorporating rich, local touches—polished woods, intricate patterns, and warm tones—that make the space feel both sophisticated and inviting. Each bedroom is outfitted with plush 330-thread count Egyptian cotton linens (although we didn’t not recount this). We also have a thoughtfully designed multi-scene lighting system that adds a personalized touch. We fully enjoy the luxurious bathrooms, complete with custom bathtubs, high-pressure rainforest showers. Our teens love the twin vanities so no need to argue about who’s there first.
The suite’s amenities are exceptional, elevating our stay to a new level of comfort. Included with the room were daily breakfast options at ATAS or in-room, evening cocktails and canapés, complimentary laundry services, a generously stocked minibar, and seamless high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Details like the Nespresso coffee machine, traditional tea set, and automated blackout blinds added layers of relaxation and convenience, making our stay feel like an indulgent home away from home.
Each morning, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at ATAS, the RuMa’s signature dining venue. “ATAS" is derived from the Malay language, meaning "upstairs." This name reflects the restaurant's location on the mezzanine level of the hotel, accessible via an iconic spiral staircase. Breakfast here feels like a refined culinary experience. The stylish, serene ambiance with a contemporary Malaysian aesthetic made every morning special. With options ranging from freshly baked pastries and tropical fruits to local specialties, the breakfast spread offered something for everyone. Our girls enjoy the variety, especially the on-the-go items, while we savore made-to-order dishes paired with freshly brewed coffee and local teas. It is the perfect start to each day, blending familiar comfort with adventurous flavors that set the tone for our Kuala Lumpur explorations.
Kuala Lumpur itself is a city where tradition meets modernity in a seamless blend. The iconic Petronas Twin Towers rise above a skyline mixing gleaming skyscrapers with colonial and cultural landmarks. For families, KL offers endless adventure. We explore neighborhoods like Chinatown and Little India, where the kids got a taste of the city’s multicultural heritage. These areas are perfect for wandering, offering a mix of local flavors, historic temples, and lively markets filled with vibrant energy and aromas.
Another day well spent is at the Kuala Lumpur Zoo, where your kids will enjoy seeing exotic animals unique to Malaysia, like the Malayan tiger and orangutans. The zoo is well-organized, with a focus on conservation, making it both a fun and educational experience. Aquaria KLCC, located just a short 180-meter walk from The RuMa Hotel offers an immersive underwater experience in the heart of the city. This popular aquarium showcases a wide variety of marine life, from colorful coral reefs to fascinating ocean predators.
During our exploration of the nearby Suria KLCC mall in Kuala Lumpur, we stumble upon the Petrosains Science Discovery Centre—a delightful surprise hidden within the shopping complex. The centre, dedicated to science and technology, offers hands-on exhibits that captivate visitors of all ages. We spent an entire afternoon engrossed in interactive displays, from simulating oil drilling to experiencing virtual reality adventures. The immersive exhibits, designed to make science fun and accessible, keeps our family entertained and engaged for hours. It is the perfect spontaneous find and leaving us with a newfound appreciation for science and innovation.
One evening, we venture to one of Kuala Lumpur’s bustling night markets, where vibrant colors, mouth-watering aromas, and a mix of local crafts captivates us. Our teens love haggling for small treasures and sampling local street food, like satay and freshly made roti, in the market’s lively atmosphere, adding a unique layer of adventure to the trip.
After days spent discovering the city, coming back to the RuMa felt like a sanctuary. We often spent time unwinding by the infinity pool, which overlooks the city skyline—a mesmerizing view, especially at sunset. The pool area is beautifully designed, and the attentive poolside service made us feel like VIPs. We all cool off in the pool and relax on the loungers, sipping fresh juices from the hotel’s bar. In the evenings, the lobby bar transforms into a social hub, where complimentary drinks and snacks were served from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The crafted cocktails, mocktails for the teens, and an assortment of canapés are recommended, adding a touch of luxury to our evenings.
Our stay at the RuMa Hotel and Residences is everything we hope for in a family trip to Kuala Lumpur. The hotel’s refined elegance and local touches created an immersive experience that resonate with both adults and teens.
