Nestled on a gently sloping cliff overlooking the crystalline waters of the Red Sea, the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh is an oasis of luxury, blending impeccable service with stunning natural beauty. Our recent visit, accompanied by our two teenage daughters, showcases the resort as an ideal destination for both relaxation and adventure, making it the perfect holiday getaway.

Birdview of the beach area

Arriving at the resort just after Christmas, we are greeted by festive decorations and a beautifully adorned tree, creating an unusual yet delightful contrast to the warm 22-degree weather. The vast property is split between two main areas: the hilltop reception with restaurants, bars, and a spa, and the beachfront with pools, a dive center, and casual eateries. Connecting these spaces are two charming trams, going up and down the slope, which adds both convenience and a touch of whimsy.

As we explore the lush, expansive gardens alive with singing birds, it becomes clear why this property is often referred to as one of the most picturesque resorts in the region. Walking through the gardens, we easily clocked over 10,000 steps daily, enjoying the vibrant hibiscus and bougainvillaea. The resort stands out for its architectural charm, blending traditional Middle Eastern designs with modern luxury. The sprawling property features intricately designed arches, domed ceilings, and decorative tiles that reflect the region's cultural heritage. Pathways are lit with lanterns at night, creating an enchanting atmosphere perfect for evening strolls.

We stay in a two-bedroom apartment located in the older section of the resort. This part of the property, while slightly dated, exudes a classic charm and is impeccably clean. It is also conveniently close to the main building, known as the 'citadel,' ensuring easy access to dining and amenities. The interiors reflect sandy tones inspired by the surrounding environment, and the separate living room, two bathrooms, and walk-in closets makes it perfect for families. The private balcony, with plush seating and mesmerizing views of the Red Sea and Tiran Islands, becomes our favourite hangout spot.

One of the Four Seasons suites

The Four Seasons' attention to detail shone through, from the beach bags and sun hats in the closets to the perfectly soundproofed rooms that guaranteed a restful night's sleep. Even during peak holiday season, the tranquillity of our suite remained uninterrupted.

The resort's beach, while relatively compact due to its cliffside location, offers complete privacy and direct access to a stunning house reef. Perfect for snorkelling, the reef boasts vibrant corals and an array of marine life. From butterflyfish to anemones (and the occasional territorial clownfish), the underwater world here is teeming with beauty. It turns out our eldest daughter is an amazing underwater photographer!

A floating jetty ensures safe access to deeper waters without damaging the reef, while the slightly saltier Red Sea water makes floating easy. For those new to snorkelling or diving, the dive centre provides rental equipment and professional guidance, making it accessible for all skill levels. Loungers and umbrellas along the beach offer a comfortable retreat, complemented by a nearby bar serving refreshing drinks and snacks. We also have a lot of fun on a short banana boat trip, a thrilling and light-hearted experience that adds an extra splash of excitement to our beach day. For divers, the resort’s proximity to world-class dive sites like Jackson Reef and Ras Mohamed makes it a haven. Speedboat rides alone are an adrenaline rush, and the underwater scenery—from turtles to vibrant coral walls—is simply unforgettable.

The resort also features an array of pools catering to different preferences. The infinity pools in the newer section offer breathtaking views that blend seamlessly with the horizon, creating a tranquil and luxurious experience. Families with children will appreciate the family-friendly pools equipped with shallower areas and nearby lounges for parents to relax. For those seeking a more serene environment, the adults-only pool provides a peaceful retreat, with poolside service ensuring a touch of indulgence. Each pool area is beautifully landscaped, with plenty of loungers and shaded spots, making it easy to spend a leisurely day soaking up the sun.

The warm main pool

Sports enthusiasts will be delighted by the 4 resort's tennis courts, which are well-maintained and available for both casual games and professional coaching sessions. Volleyball fans can enjoy lively matches on the beach, adding a fun and active element to the day. These facilities enhance the resort’s appeal to those looking to balance relaxation with recreation.

While the policy of not allowing food on the beach is a minor inconvenience, the variety and quality of dining options more than made up for it. With 12 restaurants and bars, the resort's dining scene is as diverse as it is delicious. During our winter visit, the restaurants operate on a rotating schedule, ensuring that at least three are always open at any given time, offering us a variety of options each day. Among these, Yatai is a standout, delivering an exceptional pan-Asian culinary journey. From impeccably crafted sushi to hearty, flavorful ramen, each dish reflects the chefs' dedication to excellence. The warm lighting and sleek modern décor created a sophisticated yet welcoming ambiance, making it an ideal venue for both casual dining and celebratory evenings. We also enjoy a variety of breakfast options, including a sumptuous international buffet at Arabesque, featuring freshly baked pastries, tropical fruits, and made-to-order omelets, as well as a casual beachfront breakfast at Citadel Lounge, where light and healthy dishes paired perfectly with the serene sea views. Each restaurant also offered kid-friendly menus, ensuring our teenagers are well-pleased.

Our trip wouldn’t have been complete without a foray into the surrounding desert. Quad riding across the dunes felt like stepping into a Mad Max film—an exhilarating experience of revving engines and breathtaking landscapes. The Bedouin camp visit, and if you wish, guided camel rides, adds a cultural touch to our adventure.

Beyond the resort, Sharm El Sheikh offers its own unique appeal. The city is a vibrant hub, known for its lively atmosphere and beautiful marina. One evening, we ventured to Soho Square, a bustling entertainment center that caters to families and tourists alike. Its variety of international restaurants, trendy cafes, and boutique shops make it a must-visit. We all enjoy the evening ambiance, with music and colorful lights creating a festive mood. Soho Square is a nice place to experience the modern and lively side of Sharm El Sheikh.

The resort's spa is a haven of tranquillity, offering treatments that incorporate local ingredients such as Red Sea salts and desert minerals. Guests can enjoy massages in private outdoor cabanas with ocean views, adding to the unique relaxation experience. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the state-of-the-art gym equipped with the latest machines, as well as yoga sessions held on a scenic terrace overlooking the sea. For families, the kids' club provides engaging activities ranging from arts and crafts to treasure hunts, ensuring younger guests are entertained.

Additionally, the newer section of the resort boasts modern amenities and luxurious upgrades, including infinity pools that seamlessly blend into the horizon. These features complement the classic charm of the older part of the property, creating a unique blend of history and contemporary luxury.
